The architectural imagery in my Cotoneaster etching is of a niche located on the external south wall of the Great Mosque of Cordoba which is located in Southern Spain. The building functions as cultural landmark of Islam and is presently a place of worship for Christians. When the Spanish King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled Muslims from Cordoba they inserted a Renaissance Cathedral nave into the center of the mosque and adorned some of the external walls with Christian ornamentation.
